Fern-Howard's New Archer Luminaire Got 'Highly Commended' in the 2012 Lux Awards
Fern-Howard’s new Edge-lit LED luminaires generated a lot of interest at this year’s LuxLive when they were shown in the UK for the first time. The Fern-Howard stand was almost constantly busy with people keen to understand how this new technology - better known for its use in modern TVs – was changing the lighting industry.
Highly energy efficient, and with a pleasing and uniform level of light, these new Edge-lit LED luminaires have been developed by Fern-Howard, in close cooperation with Rambus Inc., and will be manufactured in the UK. The design opportunities delivered by the ultra-thin structure are many, but it was the remarkable energy saving that can be achieved using Ray Angle Controlled micro lenses that drew most comment.
Fern-Howard’s new Archer luminaire showed the scale of those application savings. It takes only four fittings to illuminate a typical 45 metre long, 2 metre wide walkway to a uniform level of 20 Lux – something that would have taken fourteen 2D 28W luminaires, and which represents a saving of 75%.
The Archer was also ‘Highly Commended’ in the LuxAwards 2012 as a highly directional, highly efficient luminaire; with the judges giving special praise to the way the ‘clever optics’ delivered great uniformity.
