DALI-2 dimming and DALI Addressable Emergency control

When specifying intelligent lighting, the focus should be on practical features that make installation easier and maintenance less frequent. At Fern Howard, we build highly configurable DALI-2 bulkheads to order in the UK, ensuring dependable lead times and supply stability.

To make standardising your intelligent lighting specification across a whole site effortless, both the DALI-2 driver and the emergency module detailed below can be integrated into most of Fern Howard’s bulkheads. Here is a look at the exact hardware features powering our luminaires.

The DALI-2 Driver - To order add DA to most of our part numbers

At the core of our dimming functionality is a 42W constant current LED driver built for versatility and stability.

  • Configurable to the Load: The driver’s output current can be adjusted directly via a DIP switch, ranging from 150mA to 1050mA.

  • High-Performance Dimming: It supports both DALI-2 (including maintenance parts 251, 252, 253) and Push Dimming. The dimming depth drops all the way to 1%, providing a flicker-free experience.

  • Energy Efficiency: The driver operates at 87% efficiency with a power factor of 0.95 , keeping standby and no-load power strictly below 0.5W.

  • Built-in Protections: It features integrated safeguards against Short Circuit (SCP), Over Load (OLP), Over Voltage (OVP), and Over Temperature (OTP).

  • Warranty: Supported by a 5-year warranty.

  • Corridor Mode Application: Using the Push Dimming feature, the driver supports an automated Corridor Mode. Lighting rests at a 10% absence value; upon detecting presence, it fades to 100% in just 0.5 seconds. After a 120-second run-on time with no movement, it takes 32 seconds to smoothly fade back down to 10%

The DALI-2 Addressable Emergency Module - To order add DAEM to most of our part numbers

Emergency lighting must be dependable. Our DALI-2 Emergency module operates alongside LED drivers up to a 200W maximum load and comes with an upgraded 8-year warranty.

  • 3W Emergency Operation: The module provides a nominal 3W emergency output. It utilises a 3.6V 5.0Ah Li-ion battery , which can complete a full recharge in less than 20 hours.

  • Automated Testing: To eliminate manual maintenance scheduling, the self-test function is enabled by default. It conducts functional tests every 7 days and full duration tests every 52 weeks.

  • Extended Duration: Following a mains supply failure, the module is guaranteed to operate a luminaire for more than 3 hours.

Maintenance Quick-Reference: Module Diagnostics

To make on-site maintenance straightforward, the Dali Addressable Emergency features a bi-colour LED indicator to provide immediate status updates. Note that a “Slow Flash” equals 1 flash every 2 seconds, and a “Fast Flash” equals 2 flashes per second.

  • Standby: System is healthy and monitoring.

  • Duration test in progress: Slow Flash.

  • Function test in progress: Fast Flash.

  • Fault with connected load / out of temperature range: Solid On.

  • Battery disconnected / test failure: Slow Flash.

  • Battery low voltage: Fast Flash.

  • Emergency function in operation: LED Off.

  • DALI-2 identifying code: Alternating Green > Red > Green > Red….
